Department of Communication Join the Department of Communication Group Vision for the Future Telephones: In the immediate future we need to freely open the lines of communication to all people and offer public phone service. It is a common goal for every household to be equipped with a basic telephone. As the technology becomes digital it will be possible to provide all people with multiple phone lines for virtually no cost. Any person will be able to use a public phone at any time and make a call entirely for free. There will also be a free directory assistance facilitated by computers that uses speech recognition. Eventually public phones will evolve into advanced digital technological interfaces that offer hands free audio-video communication. Language: We must offer education programs that empower people to become fluent in many different languages. The internet will provide free language courses that incorporate: text, sound, images, and videos integrated with a variety of tools such as dictionary, thesaurus, translator etc. It will be common for people in the future to master many languages in a lifetime and become fluent world travelers. Technology will also aid multilingual communication and speech programs will be able to translate in real time. Any person will be able to talk to any other person on the planet surpassing any language barrier. Personal Communication Devices: In the near future every person will be equipped with a wireless communication device that offers a multifarious variety of special features. This compact technology will seamlessly integrate all media functions of telephone, internet, computer, video, audio, camera / recorder, microphone, radio transmitter, GPS and more. This technology can easily be developed and these basic objectives accomplished in the next couple of years if we try. This resource will become a common tool. All people will conveniently have access to: television, radio, music, navigation systems, calculator, photography, filming and audio recording, and nearly any software they can imagine. Seamless Wireless Communication Networks: As the technology advances it will even have the capability for multiple wireless cameras or microphones to be seamlessly mixed into the compact device. The communication device will wirelessly send information to any local port that is networked into the digital infrastructure and will save information on various hard drives. The technology of the databases will be so advanced that essentially people can record multiple high resolution audio / video tracks constantly throughout their entire life without any loss and actually save a virtual memory (which can then be accessed by the machine itself). New Technology: This device will be designed with a lightweight self-charging solar battery pack that will only be used for back up as a reserve and the machine will primarily be powered by a free supply of wireless electricity (WiTricity) from the communal infrastructure. All people will have access to the virtual network of cyberspace. The personal communication device will also come standard equipped with a wireless head piece that has both audio and visual capabilities. Eventually there will be nanotech glasses that produce 3D visualizations of images in greater resolution than the eye can see and hearing aids that offer crystal clear audio. Nanotechnology: Perhaps one day in the future this technology will be biologically wired into the optic and auditory nerves and signals can be transmitted directly to the brain. This can potentially increase the sensory range and enable an enhanced perception of reality. The aid of nanotechnology will one day produce a cognitive interface that works within the subconscious realm that can be willfully accessed at anytime. Mentally navigating through cyberspace will become just as instinctive as touching the tip of your nose. The database of information can then be accessed at will and people will be empowered to tap into and learn from the archives of collective knowledge. Computers that are controlled with the brain will also enable new communication abilities whereby people will just think of each other and can be instantly connected via virtual telepathy. By simply thinking and controlling technology with the mind it will be possible to send images, video, and audio to anyone around the world. Maybe one day we may increase the computational capacity of the mind-machine to be able to mentally process a streaming consciousness feed that encompasses the entire planet and have the enhanced power to view the world from a perspective of a billion eyes.
