Ontology - The Study of Existence Perhaps since the origin of the cognitive human being the great questions have been asked: What is existence? What is nonexistence? What exists? What does not exist? What is reality? What is not reality? Perhaps by using simple logical proofs some light can be shed upon this conundrum that may help clarify this ancient riddle. What exists? Do we exist? Does anything exist? Obviously there is some existence. The fact that I am able to write these words and you can read them proves that something is happening here. I’m not completely sure exactly what it all is, but I know something is going on. I am in a world, contained within this body, everyday since my birth I awake from sleep and continue onward upon my journey. I remember the past; I have purpose for the future. I breathe and eat, experience pleasure and pain. There are people that I interact with; they see me, hear me, associate with me, and respond to me. I am not just an illusion there are times when these other people wandering the same plane of existence even take the time to help me and devote whole days of their lives to spend along side me. I am part of the world, and I have the power to alter my environment. So let’s agree that we do exist; or at least that I exist. And if you’re reading this then I suppose you exist too. But there really is something going on. Now some people start to fathom this concept and come up with the conclusion that this whole world is in their head and the entire universe is created just for them and everyone else is just some simulation designed for their amusement. Many of these people that have been alive throughout history are now dead, and yet we are still carrying on, so I think that we can draw the conclusion that this is a collective experience that we are sharing. Unless this is all just a trick; in that case it is only me who is real and everyone else is fake. Why? Because I’m the one writing this narrative! I’m experiencing the universe from the first person perspective. But we all have a first person perspective of the universe including those around us don’t we? We are in this world together. We are all unique characters with individual consciousness, spirit, and a personal life experience. Alright, so once again something is going on; there exists some existence. So we’ve established to some degree that I exist, and perhaps you exist too, so the next question usually is: what is existence and, well how did it all happen? How did this existence, which certainly exists, come to be? How did the universe originate? We know we are here, and alive, we have parents, and they had parents, and somewhere down the line it all began, but what could have possibly created this extraordinary world in which we live? How is it at all possible that this universe of galaxies really exists? One thing we know for certain is that this reality in which we live is truly amazing. We may not yet fully comprehend how it all originated but we can all agree that something extraordinarily spectacular is in fact happening. It is bewildering to think about the origin of the universe and what must have caused this fantastic creation that provides us with our livelihood. The composition of energy is so complex and expansive. We can look at one tiny microorganism and be entirely befuddled thinking about how it works, and then to think that the same life force not only expands the entire earth but also extends to the farthest reaches of an infinite array of stellar galaxies. So where did this all begin? As you start to think about such a question usually the result is bewilderment. What existed before existence? And how did this whole process suddenly begin? What could have possibly caused this to exist? When does the universe originate relative to time? How long ago did this process begin? When will it end? Is there an end? Was there even a beginning or did this universe always exist? So let’s try to take these questions one at a time and see if we can come up with some answers. What existed before the beginning? If we assume there was a beginning, then what existed before it, and then what would have caused the sequence of cosmic birth? Did something exist before the beginning or did nothing exist? Well, perhaps we first have to define existence. What does it mean to exist? What does it mean to not exist? Existence is reality. So what is real? Everything that truly occurs is real. Reality is the actualization of truth. So what is truth? Well truth is absolute recognition of what is really occurring. Absolute truth is all that is actual, real, and existing. This is getting confusing. Now we have sort of a conundrum. We need to define this concept, but the only way to substantiate a definition is in relationship to something else which also needs to be defined in relation to something else. So now we have to break this down to the essentials. What are we associating anyway? What are these ideas that we are trying to process? Epistemology - The Study of Knowledge What are these thoughts? What is a thought? Does everyone have the same thoughts or do people have completely different thoughts? How do we ever know? If I’m saying one thing how do I know that you’re interpreting it the way I mean and you don’t have some completely different idea in your head? How reliable and effective is the process of recognition of idea and the integrity of transfer via communication? What is this process contingent upon? How can we authenticate what is real? How can we recognize and conceptualize absolute truth? And how can such a conceptualization of reality be accurately conveyed to other human beings? What is the essence of our understanding? What is real and how effectively do we conceptualize reality? Is our conceptualization real? We can really conceptualize but does our conceptualization correspond to reality? And to what degree? Even if we think a belief corresponds to reality…does it? Maybe in our own limited sense it does and will enable us with an ability to produce successful results within a limited threshold that undoubtedly may be used to serve our purposes on earth. So we know enough to obviously maintain an advanced technological society…to some degree. But this seems like success only on the most superficial levels. We gain an understanding of how to transform nature and the world around us but when I look out at the billons of stars in the billions of galaxies I want to know what’s going on out there! I can tinker with the stuff on this planet for an eternity and here it’s not even the slightest fraction of what is presently available and being offered. How do I gain a complete and absolute understanding of the entire universe? What Do We Know? Does anything really exist or is everything just the product of our own imagination? Bewilderingly enough, many philosophical people may get caught up on this simple question that most people would probably find quite amusing. Perhaps for hundreds if not thousands of years some philosophers have argued that this entire universe is just the product of our minds and then as soon as we die everything forever disappears. The fact that they are dead now and yet we are still here I think settles that dispute. No person is so special that the entire universe would completely collapse if they ceased to exist; even though some people may think so. I think we have to agree that there exists a reality. Whether or not our own universe ends upon death is another question in itself. And we must still discuss our personal ability to comprehend existence and actually know what is real. Some people may argue that because humans are fallible and have a limited ability to comprehend reality that this means there is not anything that is real and we have absolutely no grasp of reality (either because reality does not exist or we don’t have the ability to comprehend it). Just because we are not able to absolutely comprehend reality certainly does not mean that reality does not exist. Reality exists. Reality is all that exists. Reality will exist whether or not we are alive or dead or able to understand what in the world is really happening. Reality is occurring constantly. Reality is always in existence. Reality is eternally and timelessly existent. And to a certain degree of success we can accurately interpret and understand reality. Our mind is an intermediary between reality and our conscious awareness of truth. The integrity of our mind will determine the accuracy in which we interpret existence. Our paradigm, which is our model of reality, can either be accurate or false with varying degrees in between. We can have beliefs that are true and real or false and unreal. There is certainly a degree of fallibility as exhibited by myself and most people I have encountered. We commonly forget things and our memory of the past deteriorates over time. Sometimes we can erroneously change our memories and produce blatant artificial misconceptions. We misperceive information and generate false analysis of what is occurring which can lead to distorted introspection and insight. So there are many factors which detract from our ability to be absolutely consciously aware of reality. Can we completely comprehend reality and fathom the entirety of existence? Reality is infinite; existence is never ending. Can we know everything that has and will ever happened past, present, and future across the entire universe from the macroscopic interactions of galaxies, stars, and planets to the microcosmic interaction of single cellular organisms evolving into ecological systems and everything in between? Is this possible? Maybe. So we do know that there is a whole lot of stuff that we don’t know; and there is some stuff that we think we know but is wrong; a lot of stuff we did know that we forgot. But at the same time we know things now that we didn’t know before and we have the power to increase our knowledge and enhance our paradigm which can be retained with integrity for a long period of time. A new born baby has no understanding of music theory, and yet there have been countless masters of musical composition. These composers were not born with the knowledge of how to construct music; the understanding was developed through experiences over time. Enhancing the paradigm enables increased functionality in the world. Sensory Awareness We have the powers to detect aspects of reality with the senses. Does this provide us with a sufficient ability to construct a model of reality? It depends on the degree we are talking about. Our senses are limited to a certain range. Reality is eternal, endless, omnipresent, unlimited, and ranging infinitely. Our senses are not able to detect the whole range of reality and receive all of the information being universally transmitted in order to construct an absolutely complete cognitive model of existence. Further more we must trust that the information being received by our senses is accurately being transmitted, decoded, and perceived by the brain. Our senses work as an intermediary between our conscious awareness and universal reality. What can we really perceive? For the most part we perceive the world with our senses which only show us what is on the surface in the present moment. We can’t use our senses to detect what happened in the past or will happen in the future or what is happening right now on planets in other galaxies. Even what we can sense is just a tiny portion of the spectrum of energy within our present reality. We can not perceive the vast energy that is compacted within every particle in every molecule in every cell that is in our very own body. Our eyes can’t see infrared, ultraviolet, or beyond. The portion of reality that can be perceived by our senses is very limited. There is a whole range of existence going on right before our very eyes that we can’t even see. Most of the known universe we can not even detect with our basic senses. At this moment there is energy transpiring throughout our entire body, directly around us, throughout this entire planet, throughout interstellar space, in the stars, to infinity and beyond that we can not ever detect with our basic senses. For all we know we are sharing the same points in 3-dimensional space as some other incredible life forms that exist on a different range of frequencies. We don’t know because we can’t detect them. Right now there are hundreds of television, radio, and communication stations that are transmitting a whole range of frequencies into the atmosphere which are beaming directly through us yet we don’t even realize it is happening because our human senses are incapable of registering that range of existence. But if we utilized special forms of technology these signals could very easily be detected and decoded and we could then tune-in to a wider range of the universal spectrum of existence. How would a person without the senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing, and vision be able to interpret existence? What would their map of reality look like? How would one go about constructing such a paradigm without any senses? Can the mind detect and produce an accurate map of existence by its own powers and without the help of the physical senses? Our senses only allow us to form a portion of consciousness within the range our senses can detect. It is clear that using our senses we will never be able to input enough information in order to gain a complete and absolute understanding of existence in entirety. But we do have the ability to utilize the powers of reason to create a model of reality that goes beyond what our senses can perceive. Because reality exists beyond what we can sense we therefore must use the powers of the mind to catalyze the extrasensory range of potential consciousness. Conscious Awareness of Truth Our minds are an intermediary between the reality of the universe and our personal understanding. What we think is not the actual reality in itself but a mental recreation that we have formulated which may or may not correspond to the truth. To what degree do these thoughts and ideas that we think really hold truth? We may not understand truth absolutely but there is a certain degree of truth that we can model with our minds and the proof is self evident in the ability to produce successful results in the real world. Think about high speed computers and racing motorcycles or super sonic jets. If the theoretical models of these machines were not valid then they would not work in the real world. The fact that engineers can design and successfully build such machines is proof that the theoretical models hold a certain degree of truth and resemblance to the nature of reality. It is the power of the mind that enables human beings to comprehend reality and have knowledge of existence. The power of the mind is exponentially multiplied by an extensive balance of pure truth. The power of the mind is divided and lessened by imbalanced distortions. Every bit of information being processed by the mind is a geometric component of energy that contributes to the total architecture of the paradigm and impacts the cognitive system. It is essential to retain an accurate comprehension of truth in order to have an effective understanding of existence. Truth can be utilized to produce successful results; untruth is useless. Our ability to successfully exist is dependent upon our recognition and comprehension of a collection of essential truth. Accurate associations and relationships that we develop as a paradigm and retain within our memory enable us to effectively produce successful results in the world. It is our intellectual purpose in life to detect reality and expand our awareness of existence. To do this we must build our paradigm upon a foundation of pure truth. The structural architecture must be engineered and built with positive balance and integrity in order to retain its strength and utility. Cognitive Associations and Relationships Our fundamental human understanding is all formulated by processing mental associations and relationships. The integrity of our knowledge is relative to the accuracy in which we perceive relationships and formulate associations. Why do we look at the color of grass and think “green”? Why do we even associate any word with an idea? It is because we have willfully formulated this association. Every association we have created is relative to something else. Really the true color of grass simply exists and the name “green” is just something we take for granted it is called. So how can two people who are asked the color of grass say it is in fact “green”? Both people have made the same basic association. But the definition of green is relative to the person’s unique ability to sense and interpret color and process it into memory. What if one person is color blind? How well does this definition of “green” apply to a person who has never detected that spectral range of color? So how accurate are the associations that we are making? Are these associations real, or just real enough to allow the most basic functionality in the world we live? Now, what ever the color grass truly is does really exist. Whether or not we agree on the relationship of our personal association or whether or not we are even alive to experience the matter in the first place is irrelevant and inconsequential. There is a difference between our mind and existence. We have the ability to create a mental map of reality but how extensively and accurately does our map correlate to reality? How well does our map enable us to function? If our fundamental associations and relationships have real integrity then they can be used to make complimentary associations and relationships in order to proficiently extend the domain of consciousness via the power of intelligence. We must not attach ourselves to faulty associations and create erroneous cognitive relationships. This imbalanced paradigm will push us in the wrong direction and will not lead to proficient success. There is a time when we must transcend beyond mistaken beliefs and realize truth. This is called transference. Transference is the process of developing a healthy paradigm by eliminating erroneous associations and formulating accurate relationships. There maybe cognitive or emotional resistance especially if the past belief system provided some sort of artificial satisfaction and self gratification. We must never hesitate to update our model. We must have an unyielding conformance to truth. We must also evaluate our paradigm and conduct routine tests to ensure there are no structural failures that may produce a breakdown and collapse. If we build an immense structure upon a faulty paradigm then the collapse could be devastating. None the less, the collapse is necessary; trying to support a broken structure out of desperation is an exercise in futility. Our ideas are associations that we have made based upon our interpretation of reality. To a certain degree our association may be true and to another degree our association may be false. Do we have the ability to perceive absolute truth? Can we ultimately understand reality in the purest form? Or do we distort reality by utilizing our minds to process the information we perceive into idea? Perhaps it is impossible to have an absolute understanding of reality and process existence with 100% integrity and veracity. But to a certain degree our associations can correspond to reality. The proof of this is in our abilities to manufacture success in the real world based upon our theoretical model. If our model correlates with reality then we can utilize our powers of reason to construct theoretical scenarios that work in the real world. If our model does not correspond to reality then our powers of reason will concoct theories that will fail in the real world. For example engineers can build supersonic airplanes because their theories correspond with reality. The success of these inventions is proof that the model holds a significant degree of truth. Now perhaps the models are not perfect but the ideas enable success within a certain range. It is necessary for humans to recognize fundamental relationships of truth in order to begin using the cognitive abilities to further produce truthful relationships and extend the awareness of existence. Faulty beliefs distort the paradigm and are unable to render successful cognitive processing of higher truths. It is essential to get a grip on reality and recognize simple and undeniable truth. This association of simple and undeniable truth can then be analyzed in relationship with other beliefs in a process of evaluation and reevaluation. The inheritance of information via communication It is good that I can think this through and the voice in my head speaks English too, which is convenient because coincidently it is the same language that I speak. So I have this limited vocabulary of concepts that I have formulated associations with which I can utilize to process ideas. Thankfully the preceding generations of human beings have developed language in which I have been provided with a multitude of words that have associated meaning which have become common amongst people. Unique instances of reality, moments of existence, which have been identified, conceptualized, defined, and articulated all constructed for me to utilize. The ideas became associated with audible sounds and visual images of letters in an alphabet which are synthesized to construct words used in conjunction to formulate complex structures of ideas. This process is relatively effective in communicating ideas between two human beings. I can write this sentence here and you will understand the exact meaning of the words I am writing. See. We are fortunate to have such a system that has been developed and refined over countless generations of evolution. Although these words are useful, we should probably recognize that they are just mental associations we have constructed. Does this interfere with the essence of idea or is this an essential process in itself? How would I conceptualize concepts if I did not know language? How is the world interpreted once the mind is silent? Is this even possible? Or are we forever stuck with our attachment to our use of language and associations. Must these word associations be deconstructed to truly realize the essential idea? Are words our enemy? Words are useful for communication, but do words lock concepts into our minds forming permanent associations that in the grand scheme of things are entirely meaningless? What is it even like to have raw consciousness of existence? How do we formulate a complete and accurate model of reality and conceptualize existence in the pure state? How do we become completely conscious of everything in existence without interference? Humans are very much dependent upon the preceding generations of human beings for knowledge. We do not leave the manufacturer with all of this information loaded onto our system. Our mind is blank when we are born and we have the unique ability to construct our own belief system. Humans also apparently don’t have the power to simply construct all of this information from scratch by the simple powers of cognition; unless we simply have not utilized our full potential yet. No person to my knowledge has ever from birth just channeled the powers of their mind to completely reinvent the understanding of concepts like: language, mathematics, science, art, engineering, and technology. We are discoverers. We all learn from the knowledge of others. We are fortunate to have detailed books that hold valuable knowledge enabling us to introduce new and stimulating information into our heads that empower us to advance our paradigm and have greater success within the world. We do have the ability of invention, and it’s not even a question that individuals over time have had significant impact upon advancing the collective consciousness to unprecedented degrees. Perhaps every person makes some contribution. Unfortunately much of the knowledge that has accumulated over history has been lost. But to our gratitude, we live in an age where the collective consciousness of humankind is being integrated and an incredible wealth of information, ideas, and knowledge is now becoming widely available to all people. It is important that human beings are enabled to construct an accurate and extensive paradigm from the point of birth. People should not be born into a world of distortions by the people they depend upon for survival and growth. We must ensure the integrity of the information we instill into the minds of the youth. We must ensure a pure, balanced, and well structured paradigm that has the cognitive potential to process ideas accurately and utilize the powers of insight and imagination to independently develop new patterns of consciousness with real integrity. A socially distorted paradigm of existence What is our society’s collective paradigm? We live in an unprecedented age of materialism, consumption, waste, destruction, selfishness, greed, gluttony, and lust. Where does this all come from? What produced this result? Well obviously these actions and behaviors are the result of a thought process enacted by a paradigm. By the overt actions exhibited we can gain insight upon the active state of consciousness. Then we have to ask, where does this conscious state come from? How did human beings construct the associations and relationships that are directing behavior?. Media is a powerful tool that has the ability to give people intensive access to ideas and information. The question is: what ideas and information are being transferred to the public? Is the truth out there for people to gain instant access of a broader spectrum of reality? Or are the channels of media being contaminated and distorted by disorienting information that is corrupting the natural paradigm? The mainstream media is unquestionably saturating the mass population with information and over-stimulating the people’s mind with ideas. Media is a technology that enhances information in a highly sensational way and transfers ideas from a source to a recipient. The mainstream media is the most powerful source now shaping contemporary culture by introducing ideas into consciousness in a very potent way. Because society exhibits disorientation, and the mainstream media is the predominant force shaping culture, we can therefore conclude that due to a variety of contributing factors the instrument of the mainstream media is corrupting the collective paradigm and creating regressive cognitive associations that disorient people’s ability to understand truth and successfully interact with reality. The ongoing self destructive behavior of our society makes it quite apparent that humankind has yet to develop a healthy and successful paradigm. Therefore we need to start thinking: “what is the paradigm that is needed to transform our global civilization into a state of peace and prosperity?” What paradigm will enable balance and harmony and what are the faulty beliefs that are causing such chaos? Once we understand what that holistic product of pure knowledge is, how do we then make these intellectual concepts widely available to the global population utilizing the technologies of the mass media? A successful paradigm is built upon truth. We must utilize the mainstream media to saturate our collective consciousness with pure truth. What is our Ability to Understand Reality? Our ability to fathom the reality of existence is limited by our inability to perceive the universe without the restrictions of space and time and the interference of our cognitive distortions. How would our knowledge of reality change if we were not restricted by the limitations of space and time or burdened by these cognitive distortions? One day we will be stripped away from our physical body and perhaps then we will find out. What else truly exists? What is still left to experience and be discovered? There is so much more to the puzzle left to be revealed. I like to think that there is the possibility to attain universal consciousness and absolute awareness. I think that perhaps such absolute realization is our ultimate purpose in life and we are forever striving onwards to develop towards the goal of developing an ever greater awareness of what is real.. I think that in order for universal consciousness to be achieved the mind must first be precisely attuned to reality by harmonically stimulating the fullest spectrum of cognitive potential via geometrically orchestrated vibratory patterns of powerful truth. Vibrations of energy stimulated by thoughts and ideas are imprinted upon the mind. The composition of all vibratory patterns creates the overall tune being played. We must compile a paradigm that strongly resonates with what exists. The goal is to develop within the mind a vibratory structure of harmonious energy. This lattice of energy is the paradigm used to comprehend reality. This energy field is like an electromagnetic antenna that transmits and receives information with the source of existence. The source of existence is an eternal light that communicates timelessly with all extensions of the universe. Attuning to harmonic frequencies of enlightened truth is the process for attaining universal awareness. Consciousness must be properly attuned to be a receiver of universal transmissions and a reservoir of pure truth. What is Existence and what is Nonexistence? Existence is reality. Reality is all that exists. Existence is all that is real, true, and actual. Existence is the totality of everything that exists. What is nonexistence? Nonexistence is not reality. Nonexistence is all that is unreal, false, and illusion. Nonexistence is the absence of everything and is a state of nothingness; which in reality does not exist. What is real and true is existence. What is unreal and untrue is nonexistence. Everything is the absence of nothing; absolute completion and fullness. Everything exists. Everything is existence. Everything is possible. Everything is the total of all possibilities. Existence exists. Nonexistence does not exist. Existence has to exist. Nonexistence cannot exist. Existence can only be existence. Nonexistence can only be nonexistence. Existence cannot not-exist. Nonexistence cannot exist. Existence cannot be nonexistence. Nonexistence cannot be existence. Existence and nonexistence are polar opposites of each other. The purpose of existence is to exist. The purpose of nonexistence is to not exist. Nothing is the absence of everything; absolute emptiness. Nothing does not exist. Nothing is nonexistence. Nothing is impossible. Nothing is the absence of all possibilities. Does Nothing Exist? Well, if nothing existed than that state of existence would be something. Nothing is the absence of everything. If something exists it becomes a reality all of its own. “Nothing” cannot exist and does not exist by virtue of its own definition (no-thing exists). The moment nothing starts to exist it becomes something and stops being nothing. Something exists. Everything exists. All things exist. “Nothing” does not exist.
To Exist What is it worth? To ride one time Upon this voyage Of the Earth What is the price? Of one life One chance To do it all right What is the cost?
